What Artists and Entrepreneurs Have in Common
I don’t like watching TV, but I’ve always made an exception for talent shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Idols, The Voice, America’s Next Top Model and my latest discovery: The Four.
Every time I enjoy seeing and/or hearing the uncultivated and undiscovered talent that steals the show.
The part that I love the most is listening to the comments and coaching of the judges that are giants in their industry. They are ready to teach newbies the ropes of their trade and they are eager to see how much and how fast they grow.
For budding artists who want exposure, a TV show like that is the best crash course they can wish for.
Are you a winner?
So what kind of artists get through? What kind of artists win these shows? The judges obviously want a candidate to have the basics of their craftsmanship down. But that’s not all.
More importantly, the judges are looking for somebody that truly stands out. Somebody who really strike a chord with the audience, who knows how to convey their feelings and story to the audience effortlessly. They have to be able to bring that fire!
The secret to success
Successful entrepreneurs aren’t really that different to artists, in my opinion. Think about Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Walt Disney, Henry Ford, Bill Gates and Richard Brandson.
What do all these people have in common? They had or have a skill or an idea that was authentic and unique. Something they believed in. They were all innovators that somehow knew what the public wanted.
They also knew how to ‘sell’ it to them, even when nobody believed in them or their market didn’t even know they wanted what these entrepreneurs had to offer.
This is how we do it
What do successful entrepreneurs and artists have in common and what can we learn from them? They all have:
1. …a strong why, that they use to convey their message. They have a vision for the world or at least with they want to bring to the table with their talent.
2. …found their unique gift that they want to share with the world and believe strongly in what they have to offer and the way they package and deliver it – the how.
3. Put in the work to excel with what they have to offer. They have their foundation down and make a difference with their own personal twist.
And what made that they broke through and became influencers in their respective arenas, besides their persistence and belief in themselves? They put in the time, money and energy that were necessary to make it happen.

Creative entrepreneurs
I’ve been coaching creative entrepreneurs and organizing workshops for them for years.
Creative entrepreneurs understand that if they want to make money, not only do they need to be good in what they do. They also need to be able to capture the attention of their (potential) clients. They know that these two things have to go hand in hand.
A successful entrepreneur once said that the difference between work and a hobby is that for your work you also get paid. That is a big difference.
We enjoy helping all kinds of people that are very skillful to take the lead to become happier, have more impact and earn more money with what they do best.
What about you?
What is your superpower? What makes you unique? What is your gift? And more importantly: have you discovered why you where put on this earth and are you living it?
