What is home?

Most of us have been fortunate enough to have homes. Lovely homes with home cooked meals and a mother or a father or a lover. But what is home? Where is home?

We all want a home, a home to dwell in and a home to, well, call home.

Some people have never even felt what it feels like to have a roof over their head. This could either be a curse or a complete blessing. Ultimately it’s really how you want to look at it.

A few years ago I was gently plucked from my comfort zone. I was rewired in the jungles of Peru, and I was slowly obliterated. Then finally I was disintegrated in the lovely country of Indonesia on a small island called Bali.

Overnight I lost my job, my business, and my “home” back in San Diego.

But I had a bit of money in the bank, and all of a sudden I was on a cloud of grace. I had separated from all that I knew and all that was comfortable.

Sense of freedom and ease

I traveled to far lands in the East, walked pilgrimages that the Buddha walked, and paths that Jesus the Christ once was on. I was emptied but incredibly full.

I ventured all over the world in search for a home: Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and back to Asia again. Along this journey I have many powerful moments and personal insights. Being alone and lost was the more rewarding than I could have imagined.

I soaked in water sources all over the world and tasted the sweetest fruits from all counties. I learned to sing and dance the proper way with no ego involved.

I learned that a smile and politeness were the key to each city, for every town loved a boy with a twirled mustache. I had no friends but everyone I loved.

So what is home?

Home is where your feet are standing. Home is where you can rest. Home is where you can be restored, reinvented, rejuvenated. Home is a place to refill yourself.

Home is where no one can disturb your peace. Home is where you are inspired. Home is where you need to be at that very moment. So don’t be stuck to where you were born.

Ask yourself this question: am I growing here? Because if you’re not growing, it’s time to move.

The times are hectic now and there as never been a better time to dance with your soul.

It’s time to grow, my friends. Let’s swim in these vast seas and walk in our truest purpose. For I am no longer afraid of death but afraid not to live.
